2-1/4" by 1-1/2" high "pillbox" as seen in the Captive Foraging DVD -- this larger one comes with a larger bead and an acrylic "lid" to try. Comes with stainless steel quicklink (small).
Try the following steps in getting your birds to use this foraging toy:
1. First remove everything on top of the box, leaving just the bottom half, putting a dry treat in the box for your bird to find. We recommend pine nuts, peanuts, sunflower seeds, papaya, or other similar treat.
2. Next untie the knot on top and slip down the acrylic"lid" to make it more challenging.
3. Next you can string the bead on top of the acrylic lid to add a little more challenge to opening the box.
4. Next add the actual box lid -- this lid is a loose lid and easy to lift up.
5. Put the bead on top of the closed box.
6. Finally, include the acrylic washer on top of of the closed box and the bead on top of the acrylic washer.
Note: You can replace the box with the Foraging Boxes that we offer that have a "snug" lid to make it even more challenging for birds that have good dexterity.
We tested this toy with our Sun Conure who easily made it to Step 3 to get his treats. He could not grasp the actual lid of the box to open it.
