Birdsafe Store Shipping Info


We make every attempt to ship orders received in one to two business days, but it may take three business days to process your order if we have a large number of orders to process.  On food-only orders, many times we get orders out the same day that arrive by 3PM and must use FedEx Overnight, 2-Day or 3-day Shipping -- orders with custom (Birdsafe) Toys or custom perches must be in by 9AM for same-day shipping, and depending on the size and complexity of the order, additional processing days may be required - in this case you will be notified and given options for splitting shipping or holding until custom items can be finished...  Shipping charges are determined by actual FedEx and USPS rates, based on the combined weight of all items ordered.  Standard shipping is FedEx HomeDelivery/Ground, with Express Saver (3 days), Express 2-day, Express Overnight, and USPS Priority mail as options. Please note that FedEx Express options do NOT include weekend days, nor is the day of order counted if the order is placed after 4PM EST. As an example, an order placed after 4PM on Wednesday night using FedEx 2-day will not arrive until the following Monday (ships Thursday -- Friday is DAY ONE, Monday is DAY TWO). You can determine the rates of the various methods by choosing a Carrier and then a Method on the shipping page during checkout or by clicking the Estimate Shipping button on the right side of every page after adding the items to your Shopping Cart.

We will always confirm with the customer sizes of custom perches and these add an extra day of processing.

The map at the top of the page will tell you how long it will take for you to receive your order by FedEx Home Delivery/Ground, which in most cases is the best and least expensive method of shipping. Once you place an order, you can return to the store, log into Your Account, and see tracking information on your package.  When making your Shipping Option choices, make sure you take into account that FedEx Home Delivery/Ground will be cheaper, in most cases, than any other method to most places in the Continental U.S.

We generally get orders out in 1-3 business days.

Priority Mail Flat Rate Boxes -- while these options do not show as a choice in Shipping Options, there is a checkbox on the checkout page to indicate if you would like us to use Flat Rate Shipping if it will save you money.  As an example, a 5lb bag of Harrisons will fit in a Medium Flat Rate box for $11.35 (current rate).  Two bags will fit in a Large Flat Rate Box for $15.00.

FedEx SmartPost -- FedEx SmartPost is a shipping option that sends your package by FedEx Ground to your local post office and then the postal service delivers your package.  You can use SmartPost to delivery to PO Boxes, but make sure you get regular mail delivery from your post office to your shipping address.  We offer this option as a lower-cost shipping option and does add 2-3 business days to shipment transit times and they deliver Monday-Saturday.

Any Direct-Ship item (Volkman 20lb bags, Roudybush and ZuPreem large bags, Goldenfeast & TOP pellet large bags MUST be shipped by UPS Ground.  . Most Direct Ship items are shipped from Raleigh, NC, but TOP pellets are mainly shipped from Oregon. NOTE: Many of these items we are now stocking or can stock and get in every Monday - if we can and ship everything together, we can save you shipping costs.

FedEx orders are also automatically insured and are trackable all the way through the shipment, where USPS packages are not.


Shipping Policy

We prepare and ship orders via the shipping method chosen by the customer. Customers must keep in mind that once a package is noted in tracking information as "delivered," the Birdsafe Store can no longer accept any responsibility for that package (if it gets lost, stolen, etc.). Customers must then work with the carrier (FedEx or USPS) concerning the shipment.  If tracking does not show that the package has been delivered to the address provided by the customer, the Birdsafe Store will replace any item(s) that do not get delivered. To make a claim against this policy, you must notify us within 15 calendar days from the expected date of delivery.  It must also be noted that if the customer does not include a complete address, including apartment or suite number and a telephone number, the Birdsafe Store cannot be held responsible if the shipper cannot locate your address. It is crucial that you provide complete address information and telephone number should the shipper need to contact you to locate your address. By default, all deliveries are made "No Signature Required" so the package may be left without a signature.  If you want to require a signature, please contact us, as there is an extra charge involved.

Back Orders

While we attempt to keep sufficient inventory to fill orders with a 4-day period (business days), there are times when we are out of stock on certain items.  If items are out of stock and is set up to allow you to add to the cart as a backorder, your shipment will be sent immediately and the backordered items will be sent as soon as they arrive at no additional charge to the customer. however, we reserve the right to hold the order for 3 business days if we know the backordered items will be in stock. This policy applies to the 48 continental United States only, and shipments to Alaska, Hawaii, and overseas will be held until all items can be shipped directly.  Items that are not able to be backordered but that are special orders will incur a separate shipping charge if you want them shipped separately from the remainder of your order. Backordered items will be sent by the least cost effective method, even if your original shipping method was Express (2-day, 3-day, or Express Mail).

Refusals

Customers refusing packages are responsible for any additional shipping charges for returning the package to the Birdsafe Store.

Shipping outside U.S.

Many countries have "import duties" and "brokerage fees" that are charged to the customer to receive their shipments.  We cannot know what these are and individuals ordering from the Birdsafe Online Store from outside the United States should be aware of these additional charges. For International Shipments we recommend USPS Priority Mail International, but FedEx International is available as an option. Orders shipped by methods that do not have tracking (such as First Class Mail International) are NOT GUARANTEED and customer assumes ALL RESPONSIBILITY for costs in the event that the package is not delivered.
