Why we don't offer free shipping

Did you know that shipping carriers like USPS, FedEx, and UPS don't provide free shipping to retailers? Shipping costs today can be surprisingly expensive, especially because many carriers now use dimensional weight pricing. This means the size of the box often matters just as much as the actual weight—so a lightweight item in a large box can cost as much to ship as a much heavier package. Many stores that advertise "free shipping" simply build those shipping costs into the prices of their products. While that may sound appealing, it often means you're paying a little extra for every item you add to your cart, regardless of how much shipping actually costs. 

Also keep in mind that certain manufacturers -- like Harrison's - require us to set a  price if we are charging shipping, and then also set a higher price if we are offering free shipping.  While a bag of food might be $41.00 or so plus shipping, it could be $62.00 or so when offered with free shipping. Our method provides nearly all customers the best total price!

 At The Birdsafe Store, we believe the fairest approach is to calculate shipping based on the actual weight and size of your order. This helps ensure that you pay only for the shipping your package requires while allowing us to keep our product prices as competitive as possible. There are a few exceptions. 

We offer free shipping on TOP's 25 lb. pellet bags because these items are shipped directly from the manufacturer, who charges us a flat shipping fee that we're happy to pass along to you. We also have shipping charges built into the price for Wingabago Carriers.  When shopping for these items along with other items, it is best to make a separate order for them, as combining them with other items can throw shipping charges off.

When comparing stores, we encourage you to look at your total cost—including products and shipping. We believe you'll find that our transparent pricing provides excellent value while helping us continue to serve bird owners with the products and customer care they deserve.
